From a corporation to an individual

Rana_blog1I am constantly on the lookout for new fangled ways to improve the quality of films. My initial idea was to start something related to picture enhancement for films that could primarily cater to the Telugu and the Tamil film industries in Andhra Pradesh. That is when Spirit Media came into inception. Together as a company, we managed to increase awareness and create a demand for digital post services. Trying to get outside of the box, we altered the scenario by bringing new technologies and newer film development techniques. From acquiring India’s first ever ARRI 4k to executing business management strategies, they all fell into place within the year.

After a few successful years with DI, VFX, Animation, Restoration, Colorization and Gaming, I decided to move to a new episode in my life – Performing. I took a break for two years and underwent training in all aspects of acting before I faced the camera. The transition from being a CEO of a company to becoming an actor was remarkable. What began as managing large numbers of people, wheedling out creativity and ability from them and everything else that I usually did suddenly spun towards a solitary me. The spotlight was now on me, things like creativity, aptitude and flair were expected from me. If I didn’t like something that was happening, I could no longer fire the person as the person was now only me – solo.

The body, voice and the mind has to be ready to perform always. Creativity tops the list in this profession, not managerial or technical skills. At the most basic level, the actor must act so well, that the character the actor is playing comes alive and seems real. I make demands on myself and I’m always disciplined to work towards my goal. Acting is a whole new ballgame when the past few years of your life have been devoted to running an enterprise. This is one game I am looking forward to win with a lot of optimism and faith.

“Talent is a combination of something you love a great deal, something you can lose yourself in – something that you can start at 9 in the morning, look up from your work and it’s 10 o’clock at night – and something that you have a natural ability to do very well.” – George Lucas
