In the Shadow of Stars
Having grown up all along in the shadow of a family of stars, it was rather awe-inspiring to actually be able to walk with them at the audio launch of my debut film ‘Leader‘.
It was a motivating moment for me to see everyone, to be able to share my first audio release function with icons of the industry.
Mickey is a gifted young music director while Mr. Veturi has an amazing ability of putting inexpressible feelings into plain words – a virtuoso combination of music and lyrics for ‘Leader’. Sekhar’s intense drive towards patriotism resulted in a remarkable experience of working on our very own official state anthem ‘Maa Telugu Talliki’, a great patriotic melody.
The audio release became an extremely ‘family’ occasion for me as I was surrounded by my film families, friends and well-wishers. The whole affair turned out to be extremely emotional when hundreds of Venkatesh’s fans arrived; including elderly people who came just to have a glimpse of me. There were people who came all the way from places as far as Sholapur just to offer their support. I was touched by the intensity of the blessings from all these people.
Having grown up with Charan, I was always considered part of Mr. Chiranjeevi’s family and moreover, the knowledge that he imparted to Charan was always passed on to me as well. I missed Chaitanya’s presence at the event, however, Nagarjuna’s good wishes and blessings rather compensated for his missing presence. It was also particularly entertaining to see my pal Bunny so heartily share the limelight with me this time.
Even though Mr.Chiranjeevi arrived late, he politely waited for me to finish talking in order to avoid a media stir, an incredibly moving gesture on his part. Mr. Chiranjeevi and Mr.Nagarjuna wholeheartedly shared their blessings and wishes for me and I began to understand and appreciate the sheer size of the responsibility that comes with becoming an actor. It is a tough test to live up to the standard, success and achievement that these personalities have brought to Indian cinema.
The immeasurable amount of knowledge imparted to me by my grandfather, D. Ramanaidu, D. Suresh Babu and Venkatesh, all these years is priceless in my eyes. With a bit of luck and a lot of support, I aspire to do everything in my capability to carry on and maintain the rich tradition and dignity of my family, as well as this profession, to which our entire families have committed themselves to, all these years.

Hi.,
I watched your movie – actually, the second half as i couldn’t make it to the cinema on time. I plan to buy the official DVD when it comes out.
I think you look great in the movie (for as far as i saw!); however your acting skills needs more than a moody stare. Not to worry as most of the heros get better with time!
Loved the scene with Gollapudi Maruti Rao. Classic! Will go down as one of your career highlights. Not bad for your first movie!
Hoping to see lots more good to great movies in the future!
Yeah! It must have been a nervous and at the same time an exciting experience for you to be associating yourself with all these big guys in your line of work! Its kinda cool networking time I guess!
PS: Nice work for your first movie- LEADER!
Quite liked a couple of scenes!
Hey Rana,
I was impressed with your acting in Leader, You have chosen a good film as debut as challenge and no one will take dare to do so in tollywood…Please make Ur films as people really enjoy with some interesting story’s like socio-fantasy films..Dont go with a normal 6songs,3 fights and comedy track funda…select a good script and story rather-than directors, as you know the filmy stufff for a while….I will you all the best for your future..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Regards,
Sethu.N
hi.y dont sekhar kammula give chance to youngstars waiting for a single chance for a movie to prove their talent?hope u will..if else u ought to produce a film.u look honest in ur movie.goodone…..
hi RANA,
when is next movie going to hit the people. the first one is a good start and make the second one totally different from the first so that it should make a record that Rana can do any kind of movie, never stick to one phase. By the way the dressing u wear in the movie is quit suitable specially with jeans and t-shit and the formal wear is good too.
thats all for 2dAY HAVE A GOOD NIGHT
Hi handsome(blushing!!)…dunno whether u would ever to read my comment!!!…..the movie was so good that i ended up watching it 3 times already, and planning to take my friends along this time, though they dont understand the language.
Shekhar sir has proved his genius yet again.Your acting was great.Keep up the good work…
When the DVD’s of the movie come out please add subtitles…
and by the way have you by any chance seen a movie called “The American President”???;-)… Tc..
Hi Rana,
I was mesmerised to watch ‘Leader’. I really wonder how a persor in his first movie could act so well. I generally don’t prefer to watch telugu movies. It’s been 6+yrs I went to theatre to watch a telugu movie (obvious reason: it’s of low/no value). But just by seeing your movie poster, I felt to watch this movie in theatre and I did. You were extremely briliant and a very very rare piece of ur kind. I think there could be no better actor in whole industry than u, so the future is urs now.
I wish you could protect yourself from all the non sense things/distractions in industry. If this is done you will reach sky.
All the best!! My whole hearted wishes for you…
bye bye
hey rana,
leader is one awesome movie which has its own essence and flavour that cannot be compared. Its indeed fresh…..and rana ,,as a debut actor,,u r gr8 man..especially your acting skills ,,u have ur own style and way of acting..ur acting skills if compared to a new debutant are quite matured. For this movie ,i dont think u had more scope for proving ur skills or potential in a more matured dramatic way but still u managed well..u need to improve in emotional scenes man…….!!!u have gr8 future ahead and for god’s sake plz dont select regular scripts which have usually love storie=fights=climax…instead go for new hollywood kind of movies……by the way man ,,can u dance? cos leader had no scope for dancing.anyway man plan out ur future movies with gr8 care, keepin in mind ur fans expectation ..tats it for now…
keep rocking..
bye n…
all the best
Wonderful movie… and nice to see a new face… Been a big fan of Telugu and Tamil movies.
Never realized that you had a filmy background when I watched it…..
Good luck !
Hey Rana…
You did a great job as “Leader ” …you rock Arjun Prasad aka RD (I hope u’ll take it as a compliment )…It happens very rarely that people get so connected to the charcter that they remember the actor with the roles he played. And you made it happen with first movie itself.
Also , actors like you with a strong film background always have one more movie to prove yourself. But looks like you made a statement already . Its great that you had the courage and confidence to take up such an intense political drama as your debut movie. I wish all the other film makers as well as artists take that step to experiment with different genres rather than blindly making cookie cutter sort ones.
Like someone said in the previous posts , in countries other than India , not everyone gets chance to watch movies in theaters and they are forced to watch the pirated version being hard core fans. I guess for people like that they should release the movie through internet and charge for downloading the movie. That way everyone gets benifited and satisfied. But yeah one should not encourage the piracy virus which is spreading faster than a contagious disease.
Lastly I have a few questions for you and I hope they will be answered by you instead of by someone from your PR team. Because I think the whole idea of blog is the actor connecting with his fans rather than his PR team interacting.
- If you ever enter into politics would try to be the Leader shown in your movie
- What would you choose : acting in Steven Speilberg movie or with Al Pacino
Hope in future you will choose to act in such meaningful movies that explore your acting skills and ofcourse we want to see you shaking your leg too …
I think your are the best male model RayBan can ever get …
You should charge them a pretty hefty sum for making RayBan so popular…you look so cool wearing glasses.
All the best !!!
Sonu.
Hi….
RANA….
Hi Rana,
Congrats on the success of leader. The reason I went to watch the movie was to look at the scenes shot in my college {g.narayanamma institute}.:P….and i completely fell in love with the entire movie.
Superb acting and style from your side. Your expressions in the intial emotional scenes were a little disappointing. I loved the mother-son relationship between you and suhasini ma’am.
Good to see a telugu actor blogging. It’d be even better to find you on twitter or FB.:)
All the best.
Regards,
sindhuja
Hearty Congratulations on your first movie.See a winner in you .This raises lot of expectations on your upcoming movies. Your upcoming movie being a Bollywood flick , Your down to earth guy attitude and the confidence levels shown in leader interviews may not score high points in bollywood interviews. Please keep a check on this. Wish you all the best !!
Hey!
Couldn’t take my eyes off the screen from the minute you entered the frame. My first thoughts on seeing that hospital scene were, will this guy be able to carry the entire movie? Honestly,
I didn’t find the first few minutes too promising. But I must say, as the movie picked on, I saw how you blended into your character and performed the needed.
I definitely think there is much more to you. And I am more than willing to wait and watch and see, if you can bring the much needed versatility, innovation and originality to Telugu cinema today.
Looking forward to your Hindi flick. All the very best!
Cheers!

hello sir,
awesome action and awesome direction. thought more emotion could be brought on your face, it can be ignored. i am a huge Hrithik fan but u bowled over me with your action. i guess v could call you the Hrithik of Tollywood. waiting for your next movie actually, since this movie didn’t really have any dance steps as such, watching out for your dance moves in your next movie. hmmm and wat else??? nice body frame but do not use steroids. and please next movie no smoking atleast make the director and the producers to show a message while u r doing that, not just b4 the movie. and…sekhar sir’s best movie till date and the heroines have done a good job too though not much role in the movie. i guess v could make way for a sequel of this movie too. put in a word in sekhar sir’s ear
regards
Mahathi aka Magi
hello ANNAYE(RANA),
FIRST of all congratulations…the best message oriented movie i’ve seen for the last 3 yrs after bommarillu…especially the feel and responsibility that u carried out through out the film was just awesome.I only ask 2 things from you..
1) give us atleast 1 film an year
2) i want you to do a “RAMBO” kind of movie, trust me sir..i already imagined you with muscles, guns, action and stunts….and u also got that rough ,wild wolverine kind of look on you,so y ou would easily take that character…
i hope you would complete my requests…and sorry i couldnt see ur movie on big screen as in our city houghton, they dont play any indian movies…so i had to see in my stupid laptop….but i am happy because the movie was great….especially the dialogues…i can go on and on and on..so i shall give a break for now…
